Sports equinox brings a packed night of pro sports, with Jazz among the teams in action

Oct. 26 marks the 2026 sports equinox, a rare day when the NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL all have games scheduled. But there's another league worth including in the conversation: the WNBA, which is in the middle of its championship series.

Historically, the sports equinox has been defined by the four major U.S. professional men's sports leagues all playing on the same day. But with the WNBA continuing to grow its audience and delivering its own share of high-stakes moments, it might be time to expand that definition.

The timing makes for a busy night across sports. The MLB postseason is winding down just as the NBA and NHL seasons get underway, while the NFL is in the middle of its regular season and the WNBA is nearing the end of its championship series.

The Fall Classic rolls on with Game 3 as the Milwaukee Brewers head down to Florida to take on the Tampa Bay Rays on Fox. The series moves to Tampa after two games in Milwaukee — where the Rays were dominant with a 55-26 record during the regular season and are sitting at 4-1 so far this postseason. History isn't on the Rays' side here, as teams down 0-2 rarely come back, and they're still searching for their first title.

Plus, with both teams rocking some of the lowest payrolls in the league, it's making the whole salary cap debate look pretty weak.

The Dallas Cowboys head to Philly to face the Eagles in a big NFC East matchup at 6:15 p.m. MDT on ESPN and ABC, with both teams desperate to turn their seasons around. Division rivalries always bring extra hype, adding even more excitement to an already packed sports night.

Plus, all eyes are on the situation surrounding Super Bowl MVP quarterback Jalen Hurts after his blood clot diagnosis , with the league and NFLPA looking into it. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell mentioned last Wednesday after an owners meeting in New York that the NFL welcomes the review.

The Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries face off in Game 5 of the WNBA Finals on USA Network, CNBC and Peacock. With the series tied up 2-2, this one's a huge game for both teams looking for their first championship.

Game 6 is set for Thursday, but where it's actually happening is still up in the air. Atlanta wants to move the game to State Farm Arena instead of Gateway Center Arena to fit a much bigger crowd. Sources told ESPN's Alexa Philippou and Ramona Shelburne that "nobody knows where" or even when Game 6 will be played after nonstop talks over the weekend between the WNBA, NBA, Valkyries, Dream, and Atlanta Hawks.

The 2026-27 NBA season is barely underway with most teams only a few games in, but there's already plenty of drama. The defending champ New York Knicks and the Miami Heat are both off to rough starts, while a horrible injury to Oklahoma City Thunder star Jalen Williams on Sunday night could throw a major wrench into the title race.

The Utah Jazz are back on the court Monday night hosting the Memphis Grizzlies at 7 p.m. MDT at the Delta Center, so local fans can catch some equinox hoops right in town.

Utah's coming off a tough 132-123 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday and will try to bounce back against an undefeated 3-0 Memphis team that already beat them to open the year.

Elsewhere around the league, the T-Wolves take on the Cavs and the Hawks play the Rockets.

Nope, the Utah Mammoth aren't a part of the equinox. But good news, they'll be back at home Tuesday night against the Minnesota Wild. Hockey fans will still have three matchups to follow: the LA Kings visit the New York Rangers, the Toronto Maple Leafs visit the Calgary Flames and the Detroit Red Wings take on the Edmonton Oilers.

Whether you're tuning into the World Series, Monday Night Football, the Jazz game, or the WNBA Finals, there's pretty much something for everyone tonight.
